Taryn Spencer-Lyric's Spiritual Battle

Twenty-one-year old Taryn Spencer wrote her first book at age sixteen, while she finished her schoolwork at H. Grady Spruce High School (in Dallas, Texas, now threatened to be shut down because of academic failures), where she attended all four years. She diligently worked on her novel until it was completed. She never knew, four years later, she would be publishing her manuscript on Lulu.com, the online marketplace for digital content.

Taryn Spencer

Taryn Spencer's novel, Lyric's Spiritual Battle, is based on real-life experiences that the author endured growing up until she was eighteen. Those were the days that she watched her mother daily lose the battle to drugs and worthless men. Refusing to let her surroundings bring her down, Taryn found peace through prayer and writing. Also a poet, Spencer includes many of her poems throughout the novel. She is the African-American Sylvia Plath of her day.

Check out her book and support a new and upcoming black author.
