Congrats to Roland Burris

Roland Burris took his place as Barack Obama's successor in the Senate today. This ends all the embarassing nonsense started by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

Controversially, as soon as Burris was sworn in today, he was expected to cast his first vote, on whether to give Obama access to the second half of the $700 billion financial bailout.
The vote was expected to be close; of the 99 senators, Obama needs a majority to get the money. There is one Senate vacancy because the election in Minnesota between GOP Sen. Norm Coleman and Democrat Al Franken is unresolved.

I am so happy for this appointment. I feel that Burris succeeded because many felt he indeed was competent to fill the position. He will end up finishing Obama's two-year term as among the lowest of the lowly freshmen in the Senate hierarchy.

I wonder how the Soon to be impeached Blogojevich feels?
