Old School Friday-Praise The Most High

Marvalus One & Mrs. Grapevine have teamed up to start a new meme called Old School Friday. This is another way to gets some great exchange links, and to have a little bit of fun. Please l join us. Click here to view some guidelines.

Well this week's theme is dear to my heart. The praise and worship of God that keeps me here on this earth. I love Gospel music in all forms. The first person who came to mind was "Luciano."

With the release of his landmark CD "Where There Is Life" in 1995, Luciano emerged as one of the most important reggae singers in decades and the greatest hope for roots reggae's survival in the digital dancehall era. Since that much acclaimed release, Luciano's music has been consistently praised for imparting sentiments of spiritual salvation, Rastafarian edification and African repatriation.

A woman that has helped bring spritual awareness in my life is Gospel great Shirley Ceasar.
popular gospel singer who often shouts her music in order for her messages to be received, Shirley Caesar performed with the Caravans in the '60s before pursuing a professional solo career in 1966. Born in North Carolina, Caesar is known as the First Lady of Gospel. At the age of 10 she began singing and performing for family and friends. She graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1984. She also received honorary doctorates from Shaw University and Southeastern University. Her professional career began in the 60s when she was with the Caravans. In 1966 she began making a name for herself on the gospel music circuit.

She continues even today to bring forth the word with love and enthusiasm.

an of course the Queen of Gospel (always in my mind)

Sistah Mahalia Jackson

This is amazing. I heard a long time ago on the radio that song from Luciano and never caught the artist or the song's name.

It is as fresh as when I heard it first.

In light and love

Danielle

Great choices! I didn't know who Luciano was, thanks for sharing!
Love Shirley Caesar (especially "Hold My Mule") and Ms. Mahalia is the Queen of Gospel to me.
