Old School Friday-Neo Soul

When I first heard this week's themeI had to research it. I was just not familar with the genre. So according to Wikipedia, this is a marketing term for a sub-genre of contemporary R&B. The music is usually a hybrid of 1970s-influenced soul music with influences from jazz, funk, Latin, African, hip hop and house music. The term neo soul was originated by Kedar Massenburg of Motown Records in the late 1990s. Neo soul's audience tends to be underground, preferring that the music favor underground credibility and soulfulness over mainstream popularity

So with that little history down I found some really funky tunes (well I think so anyway). I am very eclectic so my taste sometimes does go a bit crazy.

This is a oldie but Rena Scott was produced by Mtume/Lucas production (with some really good arrangements)The background vocals were done by Tawatha Agee, Brenda White-King and Gwen Guthrie.

Leonora Jaye's original songs reconcile old skool R&B, street-wise funk and velvety Adult Contemporary pop, while her deep-felt lyrics capture the essence of modern femininity in all its wondrous complexity

Mrs. Grapevine and Ms. Marvalus are the originators of OLD School Friday, so come on, don't just read,be apart of a fun meme. Click here for more info. Also check out my fellow OSF folks. ONELOVE...IRIEGAL:
