Good Hair- Movie Reviews

If you haven't seen the movie, "Good Hair," then make sure you see it soon. Chris Rock did an excellent job doing this documentary. He is not only addressing the subject of African Ameriican women and their angst about their hair, he is letting other cultures understand the way many women feel and deal with this issue within our community.

I'm not sure if he knew what he was getting into or just didn't want to create too much of a stir, but while Rock takes a comical, yet understanding, approach to what would appear to be a superficial subject he unearths some details that are rather shocking but never veers too far off the established path.

The movie "Good Hair" ranges from your average local barbershop to big hair conventions. He also has intimate conversations with Megan Good, Nia Long, Eva and Salt n Pepa. I loved when he went to India to discuss the dangers of sodium hydroxide and the damage it causes the scalp.

I have been teased most of my life because of my hair. "You got that good stuff," is usually the comment I hear. I always wondered what that meant. I guess I always felt like India Arie, "I am not my hair."
