Movie Review- The Family That Preys
I was able to see this on its opening day (two weeks ago) and anyone that has not seen this movie yet is missing out. I feel this is one of Tyler Perry's best work. The fact that Tyler Perry has added white cast members I feel makes it more marketable. I always wondered what made a "BLACK MOVIE" a black movie.
Is it because you have more then three blacks in the movie? The story is about Alice Pratt (played by Alfre Woodard) and her relationship with Charlotte Cartwright( Kathy Bates), a Southern Matriach who is the CEO of a million dollar construction site. She inherieted this from her husband, while Woodard's character owns a diner called, "A Wing and a Prayer."
I liked the fact despite the differences in their financial situation they have remained friends throughout the years. Both family members have scandal and problems in their families.
Sanaa Lathan does and outstanding job as the oldest daughter, Andrea. She is the center of much of the scandal in the movie.
Rockmund Dunbar (known best from SoulFood) plays her husband. He also does an excellent job in his supporting role.
Not giving away any of the specifics (for those who have not watched it yet), I love this movie because it shows that having money (which some equate to power) doesn't always make you happy.
I give this movie 5 stars.
