Many of you might remember me posting about a young lady in my local community was killed due to a hate crime. Taneka Talley was the young lady who was killed in Fairfield, California because the man who entered the store was looking or a black person to kill. The insurance company denied the family survivor benefit rights, claiming that the attack was "personal." The man Thompson who did the killing got 25 years to life for the murder.(the term was doubled because he also had a prior felony conviction).
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Sunday that will prohibit insurers from denying workers' compensation claims on the grounds that the employee's attacker was motivated by prejudice.

That's really good to know. I remember this story and was devastated for her family. I'm glad they made enough noise and impact to provoke change.
