Kwame Kilpatrick probation terms questioned- back to court

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy forced the issue, filing a motion accusing Kilpatrick of violating his probation by cutting his restitution payment in half and ignoring a court order requiring him to disclose information about his personal finances.

“He has flagrantly failed to comply with the term and conditions of his probation and the Orders of this Court,” the prosecutor’s motion says. The “violations prevent the Court from making an appropriate assessment of his ability to pay the restitution he owes.”

Kilpatrick’s lawyer Michael Alan Schwartz has said the ex-Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy forced the issue today, filing a motion accusing Kilpatrick of violating his probation by cutting his restitution payment in half and ignoring a court order requiring him to disclose information about his personal finances.

Sometimes it is better you do YOUR FULL TIME. It sems to me when you don't that folks (especially prosecutors) seem to want to make and example of you.

Congrats to David Bing Detroit's New Mayor

Dave Bing (basketball legend) was elected Tuesday as Detroit's mayor through the end of the year, sweeping the incumbent from office in the city with myriad problems.

He has a lot on his plate. Detroit has gone through so much in the last couple of years. The scandal that Kwame Kilpatrick's office brought last year was an unwarranted focus on the city.

Bing, 65, will be mayor through 2009, serving the balance of the term that belonged to Democrat Kwame Kilpatrick.

Bing must run again in the regular Aug. 4 nonpartisan primary and win the Nov. 3 general election to hold the mayor's seat for a full four years.

The founder of steel manufacturer The Bing Group announced his run for mayor the day after Kilpatrick stepped down as part of pleas to two criminal cases. The city has a $250 million to $300 million budget deficit, double-digit unemployment and a wave of home foreclosures

Kilpatrick Is Ordered to Move to Texas

http://www.uwec.edu/freitard/GroupAndMinority/Detroit/Government/Images/Kwame%201.jpg

A judge has ordered the former Detroit mayor to pay the City of Detroit $16,000 this month and disclose any gifts he receives over the next five years, the Free Press has learned.
This includes the lease of a new Escalade and rental of a large suburban home in Texas.

Groner wrote that he is allowing Kilpatrick to move to Texas, where his wife and children have lived since December, because he has fulfilled several of the requirements of his deal to plead guilty to perjury charges stemming from the text message scandal the Free Press revealed last year.

But Groner faulted Kilpatrick for apparently hiding his money. He said the probation department found that Kilpatrick’s current assets are “far exceeding the amount initially indicated…at the time of his sentencing.”

I guess "crime" or in this case "perjury" sometmes does pay..

Kwame You by Yourself Bro

Christine Beatty Pictures, Images and Photos

These are probably the words that Christine Beatty is whispering in Kwame Kilpatrick's ear. Christine Beatty( chief of staff for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick), pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from their text-messaging sex scandal case and will serve four months in jail, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office.

Christine Beatty, chief of staff for former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, pleaded guilty Monday to charges stemming from their text-messaging sex scandal case and will serve four months in jail, according to the Wayne County prosecutor's office. She will begin serving her jail sentence on January 5, when she will be formally sentenced.

Kilpatrick right now is serving his sentence in the Wayne County Jail. I wonder if they are still going to "Hook Up" when he gets out. You know stranger things have happened. In addition to his jail and probation sentence, Kilpatrick must also pay the city of Detroit $1 million in restitution, and forfeit any future pension.

Neither one of them have shown any real remorse for their actions.

Detroit Has New Mayor

Hopefully this will put Detroit back on track. In a city riddled with crime and crooked politicians the people need a break. Kenneth V. Cockrel Jr., a former City Council president, was sworn in as Detroit’s 61st mayor Friday, a job thrust upon him after Kwame M. Kilpatrick resigned after pleading guilty to obstruction of justice. After eight months of defiantly insisting he would be vindicated, Mr. Kilpatrick quit amid evidence that he had spent about $10 million in city funds largely to hide an extramarital affair with his chief of staff, who quickly resigned when text messages from her pager became known.

Christine Beatty Rejects Plea Deal

Christine Beatty has turned down two deals, one that called for 60 days in jail and another that required 150 days behind bars after the first offer expired Thursday, Assistant Prosecutor Robert Spada said.

Beatty, (if you recall was the mistress of Kilpatrick) and Kilpatrick denied an affair during testimony last year in a lawsuit filed by former police officers. But sexually explicit text messages published by the Detroit Free Press contradicted the denials.

She is opting for a trial. I personally think she should take the deal. A trial can bring up things you don't want disclosed.
