The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill celebrates 10 years this week of the making of one of the greatest albums ever. The album went on to sell more than 8 million copies, win five Grammys and earn a four-star review in Rolling Stone.

Folks may not know this but a little known pianist by the name of "John Legend" was also instrumental in getting this album out.

Lauryn's epic, adoring tribute to her young son, "To Zion," is one of the album's high points. (to me anyway) Lauryn speaks of weighing whether or not to have her baby: "Woe this crazy circumstance/I knew his life deserved a chance/But everybody told me to be smart/'Look at your career,' they said/'Lauryn, baby, use your head'/But instead I chose to use my heart."

This album was one that I and many others could relate to in some many levels. She paved the way for the India Arie's and the ALicia Keys, allowing women to not have to be hardcore in other to get their message across.

Today's theme is "remakes." I had to think a little while on this one. The first person (I have no reason why) that came to mind was "Melissa Morgan'" version of "DO ME BABY." It is not the greatest of songs (her voice isn't that strong), but it was an answer to Prince's version. You know Iriegal is gonna do something different.





This video is from Lauryn Hill, she did this wonderful remake of Roberto Flack's "Killing Me Softly." I just love this version. This was a huge hit for Lauryn. I saw her recently and all I can say is "what the heck happened to my girl?"
