Access to Mychal Bell's Records denied

http://nerdwithswag.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/jena-six-noose.jpg

"Jena 6" still in the news. The Louisiana Supreme Court, by a 5-2 vote, denied a writ application Friday by a group of media agencies, including The News-Star, for access to court records and transcripts in the case of Mychal Bell, a member of the "Jena Six."

The judges ruled, there is no requirement for a juvenile's record or transcripts to be open.It overturned 9th Judicial District Judge Thomas Yeager's ruling that the transcripts should be public because the hearings should have been.

I don't believe it should be open as well. Here we are more than 2 years later and some members of our media are still looking for their Pulitzer. These are the same ones who would rather "film," an attempted homicide then call 911 to intervene.

The fact is that young man was indeed a "juvenile," when this incident occured. The irony is the "same," people fighting for the law are not upholding it.

Jena 6 parent has assualt charges filed against him

I don't understand what is happening in that town. I feel now after reading this article that Mychal Bell's father needs to understand what the term, "Lead by example means." It appears Mychal lost his appeal to become eligible to play football at
Caroll High School. His father Marcus went ballistic and blamed their lawyer, Carol Powell Lexing. He reportedly spat on her and pushed in down in an elevator.

The lawyer (
Lexing) apparently has filed a report with Baton Rouge police department citing the incident.

This is all so sad. Everyone has gotten so caught up in the media hype of Jena 6, they not only made
thees young men and their relatives heroes but also pushed aside the fact that they indeed do have juvenile records.

Teen Pleads Guilty to intimidating Jena 6 Marchers

Federal authorities announced Friday that Jeremiah Munsen, 18, of Colfax, Louisiana, admitted that he placed two large nooses on his truck on September 20. He and several othersdrove repeatedly past a group of marchers gathered at a bus depot in Alexandria ( about 35 miles south of Jena), where the marches took place -- as they awaited buses to return them to Tennessee.

White Supremacist Protest in Jena Louisiana

Well the "Jena Justice Day" planned Monday( Martin Luther King Jr Day) by the white supremacist Nationalist Movement ended about two hours earlier than organizers had planned, with most participants leaving long before that.

Associated Press reports that sbout 50 white supremacists showed up Monday, with 27 marching to the high school and back before the speeches began. This of course was a far cry from the hundreds that showed up in support of the six teens arrested and given extensive sentences.
Nearly all the demonstrators and the counter-demonstrators appeared to be from outside of Jena.

They called for the holiday to be abolished and demanded harsh justice for the, "Jena 6"

I have to say this, it is sad in the 21st century that we have ANY separatist groups, White, Black, Asian, whatever. I have said it time and time again. It should not have to take a situation like 9/11 to bring America together.

In 1970 we had young boys fighting for this country, only to come back labeled as "baby killers" and other such names. I had family members that fought in the Vietnam War. They were in foxholes and trenches with all ethnic makeup of people. Their main goal was to simply survive. Some did, some did not.

So when I read these type of stories I get sad, because to represent ignorance and hatred on a day that was set aside to celebrate tolerance.

Jena 6 Celebrities?

Why does this picture bother me? Above is Bryant Purvis and Carwin Jones at the BET Hip Hop Awards. A few months ago they were in jail fighting for their lives. There has been question as to what they did with all the money raised. Looking at the before and after clothes pictures I am beginning to wonder myself.

Mychal Bell Close to Plea

Mychal Bell, the 17 year old accused of beating a white classmate, and leading to one of the largest civil rights protest (since the 50's) is close to a deal. This would bring his felony charge down to a misdemeanor and possibly have him avoid a second trial.

It is coming on a one year anniversary from the attack and the noose found hanging on the tree.

Bell was scheduled for a Thursday trial in juvenile court but if negotiations are successful, he could enter a plea as early as Monday afternoon, Powell Lexing said

No one is condoning what Mychal Bell has done, what is being questioned is the equality of the sentence.
