Instructor who forced students to vote for Obama fired

One of our  rights is the freedom of speech. This right aside from the following limitations, gives people living in America the protection of freedom of expression ( exceptions: libel, slander, obscenity, and sedition). It clearly does not give people the right to force their political or religious opinions on others.
Apparently a Brevard Community College (BCC) professor did not get the memo. The college has fired Sharon Sweet, mathematics professor today. According to published reports John Glisch stated the board terminated her with an overwhelming vote of 3-1.
“The termination took effect immediately, ending pay and benefits for Sweet who had been suspended with pay under provisions of the United Faculty of Florida collective bargaining agreement with the college, pending the board’s pending the board’s decision,” the school added in a press release.
What was she thinking?

Meek Wary on sending remittances to Cuba relatives

Miami Democrat Kendrick Meek said he will be among six members of Congress traveling with President Barack Obama on Air Force One this week to the Summit of the Americas -- though he disagrees with part of the administration's new Cuba policy.

Meek said he was unaware that Obama had pledged during his campaign to lift the limits on remittances put in place under President George W. Bush.

''I want to talk to the president about the unlimited remittances, if that's what he said, because that could be counterproductive to our mission in Cuba to turn it toward democracy the way we'd like to see it,'' he said.

I know it is about time that the United States lifts sanctions on Cuba. Let's face it we have more "illegal" products coming into the United States more then ever. You ever been to "little Cuba" in Miami? I have seen products that I "know" they don't sell in America. It would be wonderful for families that hve been displaced for so many years.

Well, much criticism has been given to the fact that despite the crisis at seas (pirates and such), economic fallout, increasing oil prices, that the focus tomorrow will be "BO," the Obama's new pooch.

So who is gonna clean up after Bo? Hmmm...I think this is a time when the secret service will find out what "additional duties mean."

I found these and fell out laughing. Wow, I must of missed some of these issues at my newsstand.

Surrender or Not Surrender- that is the problem

CNN stated yesterday that Obama stated that,"his smartphone," was among the tools that he would use to stay in touch with real Americans and avoid becoming trapped inside the presidential "bubble."





Obama did not divulge just how he will overcome legal constraints, given the requirement of the post-Watergate Presidential Records Act of 1978 to keep a record of every White House communication.

I understand why President Obama would want to keep his old blackberry phone. I know some folks who were half way to work and had to turn back because they left their phone at home. The phone (cell) has now become the major force of communication throughout the day.

I can also see where Obama would see the phone as a link to his quote, "normal" life. It might have his favorite songs on their, his favorite family pictures, but he admits he is thinking of everything he writes and is very cautious before he pushes that send button.

I have lost my phone before and even though I replace it, it never seems the same. I guess it is like moving into a new house, the memories of the old house still linger in your mind. It will take some time but if (due to protocol) Obama does have to give up his blackberry I hope he will get to at least have a picture of his family (as wallpaper) in the new one.

Obama's Letter to His Girls

AP News has shown this open letter that Obama wrote to his daughters. Here it is below in its entirety.

"WASHINGTON (AFP) – In an open letter to his young daughters, US president-elect Barack Obama said Thursday that he entered the race for the White House "because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation."
"When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me -- about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world," Obama said in the letter published in Parade magazine, a weekend newspaper color supplement.
"I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfilment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation," wrote the soon-to-be Dad-in-chief."

Which Pooch Should Obama Choose?

Well on live television Obama stated that he would get his daughters a puppy when he reaches the white house. I bet his daughters have not forgotten. The family stated it would be looking in a shelter for their choice. The Washington Humane Society currently states, They didn't have any Labradoodles or Portuguese water dogs in its shelters. However they do take in a large number of strays a day so they might get luck.

Obama has Portrait in the Smithsonian

That is how you know you have made it in this country, when the Smithsonian Institute wants to add your portrait to their gallery.

AP News reports, "The gallery acquired the iconic red, white and blue collage by Los Angeles street artist Shepard Fairey, depicting Obama with the word "Hope." The image — later modified with the messages of "Change" and "Vote" for the Obama campaign — became one of the most memorable images from the 2008 election. The curators at the Smithsonian Institution museum plan to hang it by Inauguration Day."

Wow, and he has not even made officially into office yet.

Obama in Black Face

Comedian Fred Armisen has been putting on the blackface to play President-elect Barack Obama on 'SNL for awhile now. I know in the past their have been a very few blacks who have been available to play certain characters on Saturday Night Live (SNL). So it was really no surprise to me when they got Armisen to play the part of Obama. (Currently only Kenan Thompson is the only black character on the show).

There are so many talented African American actors that could of played the part. A spokesperson for "SNL" said, "Casting is an ongoing process at the show. We are constantly looking for new people. We've been auditioning every couple of months or so, and we've seen numerous African-American performers and continue to look."

I would love to see Kristoff St. John (dang I love this man) play Obama. Obama is sexy an so is he. Of course minus the facial hair.

Sold to the Highest Bidder

That is the way this story concerning Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich seems to be presented in the media. Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on charges he conspired to sell or trade, Barack Obama's Senate seat. It is alleged that he was trying to sell it to the highest bidder as part of what federal prosecutors called a "political corruption crime spree." A federal judge later ordered Blagojevich released on his own recognizance.

How does one go about doing that I wonder? Does he call up the contenders and say, "look I gotta deal for you. I can get you the votes needed for this appointment, all you gotta do is give me 1 million dollars and SOLD!" All I can say is unbelievable.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald was quoted as saying, "a truly new low." He added: "The conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave." Lincoln did his own dirt, so rolling over in this grave would simply mean he turned slightly to the side. Politricks has always been fused with corruption so why is this getting so much attention, simple, because folks are trying to figure out if Obama knew about this or can be connected with this.

Anything to tarnish the fact that in January a wonderful, historical event will happen.

Obama's Citzenship Appeal Rejected

Goodness folks give it a rest already. The man is "GOING" to be President- DUH! This statement goes out to the New Jersey man who questioned President-elect Barack Obama’s eligibility for the presidency, based on his birth to a father from Kenya and a mother who was a United States citizen.

Now, Obama was "born" in the United States, last I heard that made you a citizen of this country. If were to base citizenship on our parents, then I assume NO ONE in this country would be legally deemed a citizen. This country was formed on the sweat and toil of immigrants. I think history can bear witness to that. So many of the people from Ireland, Poland, Yugoslovia, and the list goes on who eons ago sought the "freedom" that this country offered whose gave birth to children in this country should now have to have their childrens freedom questioned?

State health officials in Hawaii have declared that Mr. Obama was born there in August of 1961, and is a United States citizen, (see FactCheck.org) .

Emil Jones- Front Runner to Fill Obama's Seat

It seems t Emil Jones has become the front runner to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the United States Senate, according to FOX News. Jones,((why they making an issue that he is black escapes me) would be the second African American to be a member of Senate.

I personally think the people in Ilinois would want a "qualified" person to represent their state, be it black, white, woman or man. Isn't that what we are getting away from with Obama's election? The fact that we have made such a phenomenal achievement by appointing a black man to the highest office ever is wonderful, but it doesn't take away the stain this nation has regarding race relations (which still exist).

Bobby Rush, D-Ill, called on Gov. Rod Blagojevich to name a black man or woman to the seat. Rush said it would be a "national disgrace" if Obama's seat were not filled by an African American.

Congrats to Eric Holder

It has been confirmed, Eric Holder, who served as deputy attorney general under former president Bill Clinton, will be the first African American to ever hold the post of Attorney General.
Holder was co-chief along with Caroline Kennedy of Obama's vice-presidential selection process and, like Obama, is a fellow alumnus of Columbia University in New York.

Holder 57, is a partner in the Washington law firm of Covington and Burling. He has served as a superior court judge in the nation's capital and was named the capital's US attorney by former president Clinton before taking the post of deputy attorney general under Janet Reno in 1997.

I wonder though with Obama choosing so many of Clinton's old connections as part of his transitional team is that wise move.

King's Family Wants IIts Cut

The family of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. is demanding a share of the proceeds from a wave of T-shirts, posters and other merchandise that depicts the civil rights leader alongside Barack Obama.

Isaac Newton Farris is King's nephew and the head of the nonprofit King Center in Atlanta. He says the estate is entitled to hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing fees.


Why didn't this issue come up "BEFORE" his being elected for President?

He Has Arrived

President-elect Obama and his wife, Michelle, called on President Bush and lady Laura Bush today in a White House visit that was part political ritual, an part introduction. Laura Bush and Michelle Obama talked about raising daughters in the nation's most famous house.

If folks had told me even 4 years ago I would live to see a pictures like this, I would tell them they were lying. Obama needs the nation's support. He has a long journey ahead. ALong with the puppy, iriegal needs to send him a bottle of Jamaica "overproof" rum mon.

Michelle's Dress

All eyes were on Michelle Obama's dress on November 4th. Barack looked sharp as can be in a dark navy suit, which was custom made by Hart Schaffner Marx, but I have to say, I was not feeling Michelle's dress. (red and black Narciso Rodriguez frock.) Let it be known though, that CLASS has just entered the WHITE HOUSE since Jackie O!

'I seem not to be the only one talking about Mrs. Obama's election night attire. Yahoo! users are searching like crazy for info on her dress, while critics are weighing in on whether it was a hit or miss. I give her props for being bold and daring!

HIT OR MISS...that is "TRIVIAL." History was made that night, so realistically she could be wearing a POTATO SACK and I wouldn't of cared!

The first Lady is gonna be a TREND SETTER in the next 4 years....RIGHT ON!

Impeach Obama Signs on Facebook

Good God, can the man FIRST be sworn in? This is sad.On Facebook, an "Impeach Barack Obama" group has attracted more than 700 members and a lively debate about the Democrat's election victory on Tuesday over Republican John McCain.

Another Facebook group of the same name has 160 members and urges others to join because "we might as well get a head start on the impeachment of Obama."

"There are a lot of Americans out there that do not fully understand the concept of Socialism or Communism which is why they've elected Obama as president," it says.

Yet another Facebook group, "Impeach Barack Hussein Obama," has 160 members.

Fear is a bad thing, however "ignorance" is worst. I remember in the 1960's when my Mom and Grandmother first moved from Harlem to Brooklyn. We were (my twin and I) young and scared. Here we were thrust in this realm of white faces. My mother assured us we were going to be fine. I thought I would not make any friends. Luckily my mother had taught me NOT to fear change but embrace it as a new adventure in life.

We were the 2nd black family on our block in Crown Heights. We started seeing the moving trucks pull up daily. One by one our white neighbors started moving out. I was wondering at the time, "where were they moving to?" Our neighborhood changed. Soon we had people of ALL nationalities moving in. My best friends were white, jewish, Caribbean, Hispanic an African. I felt like I traveled the world in my one little block. I began to appreciate the differences in people.

As I grew and traveled outside of my little area, I noticed not all people shared my sense of "adventure." Some people were hateful, (just because their parents were-generational).

America was built on the blood and sweat of people who migrated here. I always wanted to believe the term "United" was a special term. People don't understand the craziest thing in the world is to keep doing the same thing for years and complain that things aren't getting any better.

On November 4th, Americans voted to make things better.
