Instructor who forced students to vote for Obama fired

Source:eurweb.com

One of our  rights is the freedom of speech. This right aside from the following limitations, gives people living in America the protection of freedom of expression ( exceptions: libelslanderobscenity, and sedition). It clearly does not give people the right to force their political or religious opinions on others.
Apparently a Brevard Community College (BCC) professor did not get the memo. The college has fired Sharon Sweet, mathematics professor today. According to published reports John Glisch stated the board terminated her with an overwhelming vote of 3-1.
“The termination took effect immediately, ending pay and benefits for Sweet who had been suspended with pay under provisions of the United Faculty of Florida collective bargaining agreement with the college, pending the board’s pending the board’s decision,” the school added in a press release.
What was she thinking?

Protest over increased pay and benefits for NCAA players

I actually wrote about this in a college paper as an opinion piece years ago. I strongly believe that college basketball players should get equal health benefit coverage as NBA players. They don't play a different version of the game so they are susceptible to the same type of injuries. News analyst Rob Redding gives his opinion on this issue.

Review: Tyler Perry's Temptation

I want to say some positive things first. The saving grace of this movie is the superb acting of Jurnee Smollet-Bell.  Since Smollett-Bell's riveting first acting job at 9 in "Eve's Bayou" I have followed her career and watch her blossom into a wonderful adult actress.

The storyline centers on Judith (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) who is a dutiful, Christian wife to Brice (Lance Gross). She becomes bored with him and wants to pursue a career as a marriage counselor but instead becomes this therapist at this high-class matchmaking service. She is introduced by a co-worker to Harley ( Robbie Jones) who initially is everything her husband is not, most importantly attentive.  This is where the movie gets very cliché. I can't help but reflect on "Diary of a mad housewife." I think the trailer has some of the best scenes. She gets tempted, cheats, cheating doesn't work out, yada yada yada. Then the sub-plots come in. Smollet-Bell's husband is speaking to Brandy's character (counselor) about his situation and twists ensue as she reveals secret about her past.

The one reason reason to watch this film

Then we have to contend with this crazy "fake french" accent by Vanessa Williams character (she plays Smollett-Bell's boss). The next assault on our intelligence is that Kim Kardashian could act outside of her "porno" movie. She was suppose to be the comic relief but the only relief was when she was not in the scene.

Though I thoroughly enjoyed Brice's (Gross) strip downs for the camera can I say "over-kill" with the pectoral views. Okay we get it Perry likes hunky men in his scenes. There was a super long flash back scene to get the audience to understand why certain characters acted the way they did however after that part ended I couldn't care less.
This was a black version of "Shades of Grey." I understand that sex sells but there were times when Perry flirted on a "R" rating. The good girl turned bad, told ya so premise has been done and overdone.   I admire Perry bringing a voice to the African-American community and trying to address many issues that culturally have never been addressed thoroughly in the media but he really needs to start adding some diversity to his repertoire. He is a shrewd business man and understands putting his name in a film will garner box office tickets, but then what happens after the ticket holder comes to his movies? My take on it- wait for video.

Congrats Halle Berry

I see why Halle Berry has been lashing out so heavily at the press lately. She is in "mama cub" mode

TMZ reports that Halle Berry is pregnant and the baby is a boy. (video below).

I truly hope though the paparazzi leave her and her growing family alone. I don't know sometimes the price of fame is NOT worth it. At 47 it will be a challenge but she looks to be in fine shape.

Michelle's Dress

All eyes were on Michelle Obama's dress on November 4th. Barack looked sharp as can be in a dark navy suit, which was custom made by Hart Schaffner Marx, but I have to say, I was not feeling Michelle's dress. (red and black Narciso Rodriguez frock.) Let it be known though, that CLASS has just entered the WHITE HOUSE since Jackie O!

'I seem not to be the only one talking about Mrs. Obama's election night attire. Yahoo! users are searching like crazy for info on her dress, while critics are weighing in on whether it was a hit or miss. I give her props for being bold and daring!

HIT OR MISS...that is "TRIVIAL." History was made that night, so realistically she could be wearing a POTATO SACK and I wouldn't of cared!

The first Lady is gonna be a TREND SETTER in the next 4 years....RIGHT ON!

NAACP to Force Virginia to Get More Booths

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The NAACP on Friday resumed efforts to force Virginia to put more voting machines in minority polling places, setting up a court hearing 15 hours before voters head to polls in the battleground state.

The Virginia chapter of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's will return to federal court on Monday afternoon to argue the state is inadequately prepared to handle an enormous voter surge expected Tuesday

I agree with the NAACP. It has been well documented in the past that in many of the Southern States that their are not enough voter machine, particularly in black areas.

Robert D. Holsworth, a professor of government and political science at Virginia Commonwealth University, said some of the steps the NAACP suit seeks, such as extending the poll closing time from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 9 p.m., might be possible on short notice. But an overnight shuffle of voting machines, he said, would be extremely difficult at best.

25 Years In Prison For A Rape Not Committed.

Sadly this is not a new story. There are so many stories like this in our prison system. Thankfully with the help of DNA many prisoners are now being exonerated. Johnnie Earl Lindsey wrote six letters to a Dallas County court seeking post-conviction DNA testing to prove his innocence.

This past Friday, he walked out of the courtroom a free man. He becomes the 20th Dallas County man proven innocent by DNA testing since 2001, although one of those men will be retried by prosecutors.

State Justice Judge Larry Mitchell issued an impassioned apology from the bench. "I can't tell you how sorry I am this happened to you. Your freedom was taken away from you for all these years," Mitchell said. "There's a saying that justice delayed is justice denied. Justice was delayed for too long in your case.

Rihanna-Rumored House Hunting

The image “http://www.bossip.com/wp-content/uploads/rihpurp1.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Rihanna has Rihanna - who has been seen house hunting in Los Angeles with rumoured byfriend Chris Brown. Recently she was honored in her home country, Barbados. (earlier this year). They even declared that day, "Rihanna Day."

The singer flew back to Barbados to perform a free concert and accept the honour, which took place the day after her 20th birthday in February.

When is she gonna admit she is "dating" Chris Brown. It is like Beyonce, even now she has not admitted to getting married. I guess when she has the "imaginary" baby she won't admit to being pregnant either.

Oprah Throws Party For U. S. Olympic Medalist

http://blogharbor.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/oprah-winfrey.jpg

Oprah Winfrey threw a rousing welcome home party for more than 150 U.S. Olympic medal winners on Wednesday (according to Reuters.com) that was a salute to the athletes and a pep rally for efforts to bring the 2016 summer games to America.

I think that was really nice. The United States team did so well in the Olympics. Swimmer Michael Phelps, who came back from last month's games in Beijing with a record eight gold medals, told Winfrey his feat had not sunk in but "I need to get back home" to Maryland to see friends and his pet bulldog.

I really enjoyed the swimming matches. Usually I am all in the track and field but this year I found myself watching some weird events (well not weird, but just different from what I usually watch).

I even watched ping pong and fencing. All in all it was a really good Olympics. I still think those Chinese gymnast were under age, but I guess only time will tell on that one.

Soul Train Dancers CLASSIC

I love the Soul Train dancers. I remember back in the day I would practice for hours to pop lock and do the Soul Train moves. The Asian lady who was always throwing her hair all over the place and of course my girl Damita Jo Freeman had me running to television on Saturday afternoons.

Here are some pretty cool moves. Enjoy.

Bobby Brown Getting Married Again

BOBBY BROWN is planning to wed again after confirming he and manager/girlfriend ALICIA ETHEREDGE are an item.
Brown was with Etheredge when he reportedly suffered a minor heart attack last year (Oct07) - but it has taken him almost a year to confirm the romance.

In another Bobby Brown Production, it seems that he
is being sued by his former divorce attorneys for allegedly failing to pay a $90,217 legal tab covering expenses related to his divorce battle with ex-wife Whitney Houston.

The complaint, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Aug. 15 by the law firm Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon & Jamra, claims Brown signed a written agreement stipulating that in the event of a dispute over fees, he would submit to binding arbitration to resolve the matter.

The Cosby Kids-Where are they now?

Photobucket

THE COSBY SHOW- WHERE ARE THE KIDS NOW?

Photobucket Photobucket
Malcolm Jamal Warner born August 18t, 1970. Warner was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and was raised by his divorced mother, Pamela Warner, who served as his manager. He was named after Malcom X and Jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal. At the age of nine Warner demonstrated an interest in show business which led to enrollment in acting schools. This led to his role in the hit series "The Cosby Show." While he is quick to point out that his name is Malcolm, not Theo, he says he has no problem with being recognized as Theo Huxtable, and contends that he has nothing but positive memories of The Cosby Show. In 2003, Warner showed his musical chops & released his debut EP, "the Miles Long mixtape.." In 2007, Warner followed up with his second CD entitled, "Love & Other Social Issues"

Tempestt was born August 1, 1973. We remember her best as Vanessa Huxtable, the fourth child in the Cosby show.

In the mid-1990s, Tempestt enjoyed a year long run as the host of her own daytime talk show, The Tempestt Bledsoe Show, produced by Columbia-Tristar and Dick Clark. In 2006, she participated in the third season of Celebrity Fit Club, and lost 19 pounds. She has been featured in the recurring role of a single mother The Practice, the Lifetime show Strong Medicine, and South Of Nowhere. Her most recent credits include starring as Nina in the Oxygen Channel's original television movie, "Husband For Hire", and Abby in the third season of Disney Channel's animated series "The Replacements". In addition to her acting career, she received a degree in finance from New York University.

Bonet was born Lisa Michelle Boney on November 16, 1967. Bonet is known for her starring role in the Cosby show as Denise Huxtable. In 1987 she accepted the role of Epiphany Proudfoot in the movie Angel Heart opposite Mickey Rourke. This caused a lot of controversy on the Cosby set. Bill Cosby wanted to keep that wholesome image of the kids cast in the show. In 2000 she appeared in the movie High Fidelity. Her most recent film appearance was in Biker Boyz which reunited her with former co-star Kadeem Hardison of A Different World.

In August 2006, Bonet appeared in a week-long A Different World reunion special that aired on Nick at Nite, along with fellow co-stars Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Cree Summer, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, and Sinbad. Bonet co-starred in the 2006 film Whitepaddy, alongside Sherilyn Fenn, Hill Harper, Debra Wilson, Karen Black, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bonet now calls Los Angeles home, where she lives with her children. She has directed several music videos and does a great deal of volunteer work with juvenile offenders.
