Texas Exonorees Getting Wealty

Well, it is about time the state of Texas (known more for its executions, then the Alamo) is doing right by these folks. Exonerees will get $80,000 for each year they spent behind bars. The compensation also includes lifetime annuity payments that for most of the wrongly convicted are worth between $40,000 and $50,000 a year — making it by far the nation's most generous package.



Most of the exonerees were black males, who were recipients of the "Jim Crow," laws. Laws which were disabled years ago, but which "closet" politicians, and members of the Judicial System for the State of Texas seemed to still want to uphold. Due to the current DNA testing many of these men now have the chance to prove their innocence.

Two who served about 26 years in prison for rape will receive lump sums of about $2 million apiece. Another, Steven Phillips, who spent about 24 years in prison for sexual assault and burglary, will get about $1.9 million.

Fidel Castro Wants Cuba to be enslaved

Fidel Castro again bristled at the Obama administration's steps toward improving relations with Cuba, writing in a May Day message that the U.S. would like to see Cubans "return to the fold of slaves."

Sometimes you can't agrue with "ignant" people. He just does not want his people to have any sort of freedom. It is all about Fidel's control..sad.

Some of the U.S. officials say they would like to see some Cuban political and social reforms before exploring normalizing diplomatic relations. Fidel Castro insists that Cuba should make no concessions in return for better U.S. ties.

Racial disparities persist in higher-paying jobs

I know many of you are looking at this title and saying, "here we go again," someone always trying to bring up the "past." Sadly, this is not the past. I don't know why many people felt having a black President in office was going to solve the racial divide in America.



The Associated Press ran this article which shows the findings from an intense study done by the Joint Center or Political and Economic Studies. Rodrick Harrison, (a demographer) states, "The lesson of most economic downturns is minorities are the last hired, first fired. They lose jobs more quickly, and they will be the last to recover.

Blacks overall slightly narrowed the gap in 2007 with whites in average salary, but the pay disparity widened for blacks with college degrees. Blacks who had a four-year bachelor's degree earned $46,502, or about 78 percent of the salary for comparably educated whites.

If you are trying to keep up with the "JONESES" forget it. Unless of course your name is Jones.

Don Cornelius has his own "Soul Train Party"

I haven't seen the host with the most in years. I was saddened to hear about his misdemeanor arrest in October for domestic violence. What is this some kind of "fad" now?
The 72-year-old showbiz vet who was facing up to three counts of spousal battery, one count of dissuading a witness from making a police report and one count of assault with a deadly weapon—each charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail.

UPDATE: Cornelius was sentenced to three years' probation after pleading no contest to one count of corporeal injury resulting in traumatic condition of a spouse stemming from his October arrest.

Hillary Losng Folks Left and Right

Well another one bites the dust. Mark Penn, the pollster and senior strategist for Hillary Clinton's, presidential bid, left the campaign Sunday after it was disclosed he met with representatives of the Colombian government to help promote a free trade agreement Clinton opposes.

See the way I look at it is when you are digging for dirt on other people, it is important to look in your own front yard too. s. Penn later issued a statement apologizing for the meeting, calling it an "error in judgment."

"Senator Clinton was disappointed that meetings with Colombians had occurred. She is a strong opponent of the trade deal," said a Clinton campaign official speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not given authority to speak publicly. "Over the course of the weekend he recognized he needed to step aside as chief stratey. This trade deal probably ended a very tight relationship between the Clintons and Penn. As we know in the midst of adversity it is important to separate yourself negative actions.

Chinese Guns Sales Contributed to Carnage In Darfur

Chinese sales of assault rifles and other small arms to its ally Sudan have grown rapidly during the Darfur conflict despite a U.N. arms embargo, a human rights group said on Thursday.

A study by the Human Rights First, stated that China was the sole supplier of small arms to the Sudan (which pays for the weapons with its oil revenue).

Who is paying for China's unconcern is most definitely Sudan's Darfar. They don't know or care about what are the internal issues going on in that area. So more death, disease and of course dislocation. The Human Rights group called on Bejjing to stop the sales. They have also pressured other countries to link this to the Bejjing Olympics.
