Hawthrone-Jada Pinkett Smith

I don't get much chance to watch televison, however I was curious about the new show "Hawthrone," which stars Jada Pinkett Smith. I tuned in last night and was pleasantly surprised. Well, not really, because since I saw her in Set It Off, I have loved her acting abilities.

In the pilot, her husband died (about a year ago). We're not sure why just yet but that Christina may have been indirectly involved. She has a teen daughter, which is drama in itself, a self absorbed mother-in-law, and a host of co-stars which make up the staff of the hospital.

I was thinking another ER, but it really wasn't. It has the same format, but Hawthrone talks about the best people in any hospital (the nurses). I find the nurses know more then the doctors in some cases. I think I just found a new show to watch.

Madonna Adoption or Collection?

Well, the "material girl" is at it again. She is going back to Malawi, this time to possibly adopt a daughter.

We are expected to be in court on Monday to file for a possible adoption," her lawyer, Alan Chinula, said Thursday.

Under Malawi law, adoptions are typically off-limits to single or divorced parents. Madonna is both; her 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, was born when the superstar singer was unmarried, and she split from British director Guy Ritchie last year.

It is like going to African countries and adopting children has become a recreational sport for some celebrities. I guess they feel they are "saving" them from this horrid life of poverty and hopelessness. I know money will surely not be an issue, but I wonder about the support that these kids have coming into a strange country and being separated for people they know.

Any thoughts?

T.I. on His "last" Road to Redemption- The Big House

Rapper T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, leaves federal court in Atlanta on Thurs. March 27. Friday he was sentenced to a year in prison on gun charges.

Okay MTV can stop milking this story now. For months viewers have followed Clifford Harris through his daily routine, while awaiting his incarceration. He was sentenced to a year and a day in prison on Friday for illegally possessing machine guns and silencers, as prosecutors lauded his anti-violence advocacy since his arrest.

He originally faced up to 20 years. He performed his community service publicly. T.I.'s Road to Redemption" show has actually helped a lot of youth in the Atlanta area. He posted $3 million bail after his arrest.

Many people say he got a "cushy" deal. Well, most celebrities get, "cushy" deals, T.I. is not the first and won't be the last.

8year old marries 47 year old Man

This looks like something that would be in Weird News or something, however it is true. A man in Saudi Arabia has caused a controversy with some of its top clerics. The practice of men marrying children in Saudi Arabia dates back to centuries ago. However, this newest marriage has put this practice back in the spotlight. The top cleric's have refused to annul this marriage.

The mother of the child signed a petition to have the marriage annulled. The judge rejected a petition from the girl's mother, whose lawyer said the marriage was arranged by her father to settle a debt with "a close friend." The judge required the girl's husband to sign a pledge that he would not have sex with her until she reaches puberty. Yeah right, he is gonna honor that.

I worry sometimes that my daughter might fall in love with someone who's cultural practices I disagree with. I know I don't have any control who my children fall in love with, but because I myself am from another culture, I often tell them to find out the practices of that culture if they find they are getting really deep in that relationship.

I am sorry, I would have to leave that country (and claim political asylum) before I commit to having my "baby" (because that is what an 8 year old is) marrying a grown man. I notice in the mid eastern countries that you don't have the young boys marrying older women....hmmm..
